Centerville postpones annual lighted Christmas parade
CENTERVILLE, Ga. – The annual Centerville Lighted Christmas Parade has been rescheduled to Dec. 9 starting at 7 p.m.
The parade was originally scheduled for last Saturday but was postponed due to weather. According to Special Events and Marketing Coordinator Tess Chambers, Mayor John Harley and council members chose to postpone the parade because they worried there would be heavy rain Saturday night, deterring people from attending.
Chambers also said many people participate yearly, including dance groups and Girl Scout troops. The city felt participants and guests wouldn’t have because of the rain.
According to Chambers, the parade is the last event of the year and the most popular because the event is lighted and at night. She said the city didn’t want to cancel the parade and postponed it to allow everyone to have fun.
Chambers added the parade would remain the same and follow the original route from Thomson Road to Galleria Mall along Houston Lake Road.
The parade is free to watch, but Chambers encourages people to make a toy donation for Toys for Tots. She said they will take toy donations during the parade.
She will be taking donations on the back of a pickup truck while livestreaming the event. The truck will be parked against a fence on Houston Lake Road in front of Center Park. A donation box is also located inside City Hall and will be there until Dec. 15.
The city is hopeful the weather will be improved this Saturday so the community can feel the Christmas spirit.
“I think it’ll be a fun night; it always is. It’s fun to see the community come together and it’s fun to see the Christmas lights, it puts everybody in the spirit of Christmas and the holidays. It’s so neat to see the kid’s faces either on the side watching the parade and even the ones that are participating because everybody is so excited. It’s just a really neat night to see the little kids and their faces lit up with excitement for the lights and the music. It’s really fun,” said Chambers.
The Christmas parade will take place this Saturday, Dec. 9 starting at 7 p.m.
