Centerville man gets 5 years probation
A Centerville man was sentenced to 5 years probation on a variety of charges Wednesday in Houston County Superior Court.
Judge George Nunn sentenced Markeis Sherrell Scott, 29, to serve 2 years probation on charges of fleeing, attempting to elude, also spitting on police officers and attempting to bite Dep. Karl Darden, obstruction and running from Darden, driving under the influence of alcohol, and damage to grass and greenery at 605 Collins Ave. The incidents took place Oct. 23, 2015. Scott pled guilty to all charges.
According to a Houston County Sheriff’s report, Scott sped off from a road check at Elberta Road near Ridgebend Drive after being told to go to a secondary screening location, nearly hitting other law enforcement officers, and then fleeing after he wrecked his Chevy Tahoe on Collins Avenue.
Scott had a seizure while being searched, the report said, and an ambulance was called. The EMT suggested Scott be taken to the Houston Medical Center. He became combative at the hospital and threatened Darden, according to the report. Darden called for help, and Sgt. James Bish and Officer Tyler DelGiorno of the Warner Robins Police Department arrived. Scott spit at Bish and DelGiorno, who were helping control him.
In addition to the jail time, Scott was ordered to perform community service, was fined $1,000, told not to engage in any illegal driving, neither consume nor possess alcohol, and take a risk reduction program for the DUI charge, an intervention program mandated by law for people convicted of driving under the influence. He was given credit for time served since Oct. 24, 2015.
In another case, Robert Oscar Armstrong III, 44, of Kathleen was sentenced to five years for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, three years for possession of methamphetamine to run concurrent with a previous charge, and five years probation for felony theft, to run consecutive with previous two charges.
He was also ordered to pay $6,000 in restitution to victims, with the probation office to determine the arrangement.
Armstrong was convicted in 2012 of first-degree forgery.
In the felony theft incident, he was convicted of a June 3, 2014, theft of a Honda Rancher 4-wheel drive vehicle, with a value of $1,500, which was the property of Austin Underhill.
Anderson will serve five years on the theft by taking charge and will get credit for time served from Aug. 7, 2014, to Dec. 19, 2014, and from June 3, 2015, to the present. He is to have no contact with any victims and not commit theft, forgery, fraud or illegal entry.
