Carlton H. Jackson- ‘Rabbit’ – Warner Robins Demon Marching Band’s biggest fan

Carlton H. Jackson was born and raised in Macon and Warner Robins. He attended Rumble Middle School and graduated from Warner Robins High School. Most probably don’t know him by Carlton, but rather know him as “Rabbit.”

Rabbit, for the last 39 years, has spent his time volunteering and supporting the Warner Robins High School Demon Marching Band. He has never missed a game up until 1996 when he was involved in a car accident. Then after he recovered, the next year he was back to support the band again.

“I was involved in a major car accident that damaged my spinal cord,” Rabbit said. “But the Lord blessed me, and the band bought me a scooter so that I could still make the home games; I don’t live very far from the school so I’m able to ride the scooter up there.”

Rabbit has never played an instrument nor has any children. He said he just has a love for music and helping out the students. Some of the tasks Rabbit has done are help carry the drum major’s podium and percussion instruments to the field as well as being in charge of the gate for the band at the football games.

“Whatever they need, I am here for them,” Rabbit said. “I worked with E.C. Warnock and now Todd Howell. Mr. Warnock was a great guy. He truly loved each and every one of his students, and Todd is the same way. But I really love music. It’s really neat to watch these kids start the show at camp and then make it a really great show through the season. And this is a great program for kids to stay out of trouble.”

Howell said he is very grateful for Rabbit and his passion.

“He is definitely a big part of the Demon Marching Band family,” Howell said. “He’s always been there for us, cheering us on and doing whatever he can to support us. We appreciate him so much.”

Rabbit said he got his nickname from friends and some of the students in band. He said he was nicknamed Rabbit because he loves to eat a lot of salads. He also said his favorite instrument is the drums. And as long as he is able, Rabbit plans to continue volunteering for the Warner Robins High School Demon Marching Band.

“This is my home,” Rabbit said. “It means a lot to me, and I am just so proud of the band.”
