Campbell teams with Johnson as Westfield tennis champions

Westfield seniors Stephanie Campbell and Laura Johnson emerged as the GISA Region 2-AAA girls doubles tennis champions, and the pair remained unstoppable in the postseason, taking the AAA state title.

This was a repeat performance for Campbell, who in 2013 paired with then senior Valerie McLure for the same doubles titles.

The Campbell and Johnson pairing earned its entry into the GISA AAA individual state competition and they plowed through the draw, defeating Deerfield-Windsor in a three-set final by a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to become the GISA AAA girls doubles state champions.

The Westfield tennis season as a whole saw, in the Region 2-AAA, the boys team emerging as region runners-up and the girls team emerging as the region champions.

Following the region tournament, junior Lance Parks emerged as the No. 4 boys singles player; senior Chelsea Williams emerged as the No. 3 girls singles player; and seniors Tyler Moreland and Chandler Duggan emerged as the No. 3 boys doubles team.

At the state individual matches, Parks lost in the round of 16 to the eventual GISA AAA boys champion; Williams lost in the round of 16 and Moreland and Duggan lost in the quarterfinals to the eventual GISA AAA boys doubles champions.

There is still the GISA AAA team tennis championships in Macon on Monday. The girls team will enter the tournament as the defending state champions with hopes of bringing back a repeat.
