Billingsley makes 1st appearance as college football player
Fresh off his world record setting weightlifting performance at the International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports World Junior Games in England, former Northside High Eagle Jaque Billingsley is now a college football player.
Pasadena City College in California opened its 2014 season this past Saturday. Even though it was a loss to El Camino, 37-20, at home, Billingsley is listed in the postgame participation report.
Prior to the start of the season, Pasadena head coach Fred Fimbres made these comments to the Houston Home Journal:
“A high school teammate of Jaque’s reached out to us and said there were a few other players from Northside High that we should look at. Jaque sent us film and we were impressed enough from watching the film to recruit him.
“It wasn’t until I ended up talking with his high school head coach that we learned he was playing on a prosthetic leg. His medical impairment didn’t dissuade us from recruiting him. So far, he’s looked really good in practice and we’re excited about him being a contributor this season at nose guard.”
Billingsley played both football and track with his prosthesis as a Northside senior.
