At its Wednesday meeting, the Promotion Committee of the Perry Main Street Program made public a few upcoming artistic and entertainment events to help Perry celebrate Halloween and to promote the arts in the coming weeks.

On Oct. 31, Sweets and Treats on Downtown Streets will feature trick-or-treating in the downtown from 4-6 p.m., with a costume contest at 5:30 p.m. featuring cash prizes, according to Catherine Edgemon, Main Street coordinator.

Next month, the Perry Arts Center Committee is sponsoring a new First Friday-type event for Downtown Perry centered on the arts.

All of the city’s downtown restaurants and shops will be open from 6-9 p.m. the night of Nov. 6 for the Paintings, Pitchers and Pints event.

Artist Vincent Golshoni of the Goldon House Galleries in Savannah and Beaufort, S.C., will set up his easel in Dot Roughton Park where he will create an artwork and donate it to the Perry Arts Center Committee. The committee will in turn auction the art with proceeds going to The Friends of Perry Animal Shelter (FOPAS) and the Perry Animal Shelter Building fund.

About eight to 10 other artists will be at participating locations, Edgemon said, and live music will be set up in three locations along Carroll Street.

And during Thanksgiving week, Small Business Saturday is scheduled for Nov. 28. Shoppers will participate in “passport shopping” with a chance to win $300 “Downtown Dollars” to spend at local shops.
