‘A cowardice act’: vehicle shot after bowling alley shooting
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — A shooting at Gold Cup Bowling Center ended in a damaged vehicle early Sunday morning.
According to the Warner Robins Police Department, around 12:30 a.m. on April 24, two off-duty detail officers with the department working for the bowling alley were on scene following an incident on the east side of their parking lot. While they were on scene, a shooting broke out on the west side of the parking lot.
During the shooting, a male suspect began shooting towards a parked vehicle with a rifle. An unknown person returned fire with a handgun.
No injuries were reported from this incident; however, a vehicle involved caught a few bullet holes and had its back window shot out from the gunfire.
The Warner Robins Police Department believes the suspects involved knew each other.
Police Chief John Wagner said with spring events like prom and high school graduation, transitional venues like parking lots may not be the safest place for teens to assemble. He said that one incident like at Gold Cup Bowling Center ruins the fun for everyone.
“What’s scary is the people who could get hurt in between the crossfire, and there’s absolutely no regard for anybody’s safety,” Wagner said. “It’s a cowardice act.”
Wagner also remarked that while there were no injuries this time around, sometimes those involved are not as lucky, and these incidents could have had a more tragic ending.
“When you’re pulling out a gun and firing in a crowded parking lot, we got lucky on [this incident] but a lot of people could have been hurt or killed,” Wagner said.
The Houston Home Journal reached out to Gold Cup Bowling Center but did not receive a reply.
The Warner Robins Police Department is still investigating this incident. Anyone with more information is encouraged to call the police department at (478) 302-5380 or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
