Warner Robins man sentenced to 18 years in prison after buying stolen golf carts, possessing methamphetamine
Kerry Mikeal Holt, Jr., 51, pleaded guilty just before his scheduled trial on Monday, June 8. The case stemmed from a 2024 investigation.
PERRY — Kerry Mikeal Holt, Jr., 51, of Warner Robins pleaded guilty to Theft by Receiving Stolen Property, Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon just before his scheduled trial on Monday, June 8.
Chief Judge Katherine Lumsden sentenced Holt to 18 years in prison, according to a media release from the District Attorney’s office. At the time of sentencing, he had four prior felony convictions.
The Perry Police Department opened an investigation in December 2024 after four golf carts were stolen from Mike’s Golf Carts, located at 1608 Sam Nunn Blvd.
On the night of December 18, 2024, officers made contact with a suspect who was actively driving one of the golf carts and towing a second. The driver was identified as Edward Hargreaves, who led officers on a chase through the streets of Perry before being taken into custody. The media release says he caused damages to police vehicles and uninvolved neighbors’ fences.
Hargreaves pleaded guilty to these charges in April 2025 and was sentenced to 30 years, with the first 15 years to be served in prison.
After continuing the investigation, investigators learned that Hargreaves sold off the third and fourth golf carts for below market value. According to the release, he sold them for a few hundred dollars, compared to valuations in excess of $5,000. Holt was one of the buyers.
Investigators set up surveillance on Holt’s residence in Warner Robins and saw the stolen golf cart in his backyard. Investigators then obtained a search warrant for the residence.
The Perry Police Department, with the assistance of the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, executed the search warrant in December 2024. During the course of the search warrant, Holt was found on the scene with numerous narcotics packaged for sale and a firearm.
This case was investigated primarily by Detective Aaron Conner of the Perry Police Department. Holt was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Mike Smith of the Houston Circuit D.A.’s Office.
In a media release, Smith thanked the dedication of the PPD and HCSO for their efforts in working together. He said they worked together to bring down career thieves that have harassed the community for years. He also thanked Connor’s work in the case.
District Attorney Eric Edwards said career criminals rarely limit themselves to a single type of offense.
“In this case, a convicted felon knowingly purchased stolen property for a fraction of its value, only for investigators to discover that he was also engaged in narcotics distribution and
unlawfully possessing a firearm. These crimes are all interconnected and contribute to the erosion of safety and quality of life in our neighborhoods.”
Edwards also shared one of the clearest indicators that a property has been stolen is when it is offered for sale at a price that is not legitimate.
“Purchasing obviously stolen goods does not make someone a bargain hunter—it makes them part of the criminal enterprise that incentivizes thieves to continue victimizing honest businesses and citizens,” Edwards said.
Edwards echoed Smith’s comments, saying he is grateful for the agencies’ outstanding work.
“This sentence reflects our office’s continued commitment to holding repeat offenders
accountable and ensuring that those who choose to traffic in stolen property, illegal narcotics,
and firearms face serious consequences for their actions,” Edwards said.
