Mayor LaRhonda Patrick said the event is a chance for the community to try unique burgers at local restaurants. She shared that the burgers will cost $10 or less.
The burgers range from dessert burgers for those with a sweet tooth to breakfast burgers for the early birds. Patrick said the burgers are offered at different types of restaurants in different meal types, making it a creative experience when restaurants are cooking up their burgers.
Patrick encourages participants to sign up for the Burger Week passport. It is free and accessible for smartphones. According to the city’s website, the passport is packed with fun challenges, and participants have the chance to earn prizes if they try all the burgers.
Last year was the first year Burger Week was hosted in the city, which Patrick said received a lot of participation.
“I was actually surprised just to see how the community embraced having this activity,” she said.
Patrick said she visited various restaurants last year. One of those restaurants was Big Picture Burgers, a place she had wanted to try for years. When she was there, other customers were waiting for their food.
Patrick overheard customers talking about Burger Week when she joined their conversation. They shared with Patrick that they were at the restaurant because they were participating in the event.
That’s when Patrick realized the event was successful.
“People are really engaging, they’re wanting to be a part of this and really wanting to support our local businesses,” she said.
Last year’s success led the city to bring the event this year. Patrick explained the city does not collect anything from the event; it’s simply a way for everyone to come together and enjoy good food.
Out of this year’s selections, Patrick is excited to try the Breakfast Beast from Yesterdaze Bar and Grill. She is also eager to try the tallest and biggest burger on the list.
Patrick encourages everyone to visit restaurants they haven’t tried before and hopes it will be added to their list of favorites. She believes it will continue to be a fun experience for participants and a way to make fun memories in the city. Patrick also said supporting local businesses now is more important than ever.
“[It’s about] coming together to support our local businesses and allow people to try something they hadn’t tried before at restaurants they likely have never been to,” she said.
The HHJ will participate in Burger Week again and visit local restaurants throughout the community. Make sure to read our reviews in a future edition of the Houston Home Journal.
