CENTERVILLE—The Centerville City Council meeting did not last long at all, however, there was still new business conducted.

Before the public comment period, Mayor John Harley was going to read the rules of decorum, but decided to skip it since there were no citizens who spoke during this period.

After the minutes of the previous meeting and work session were approved, it was on to new business.

The council first approved the purchase of a new 2024 Toyota Rav4. The total value of this purchase is $38,354. Other vehicles were in consideration including a 2024 and 2025 Ford Explorer.

The 2024 Toyota Rav4 is the cheapest out of the three in consideration, it was noted, and both Harley and Councilman Bob Bird agreed that the new vehicle was a great car.

“I had one for a while and my granddaughter had one. They are really great cars,” Harley said.

“As somebody who just was car shopping, I think that was a good price for that vehicle,” Bird said.

The council also approved a resolution to add membership in a fund of Georgia Interlocal Risk Management Agency.

City Administrator Krista Bedingfield said with the passing of House Bill 451 the city should mandatorily provide coverage on two different components for PTSD diagnosis benefits for all first responders.

“With that component, there are PTSD diagnosis benefits and then also a disability limit,” she said. “The annual premium for the cost of this will be $5,773.”

As for council comments, Bird said he is looking forward to attending the City of Centerville’s Lighted Christmas Parade. The parade will be this Saturday, Dec. 7 from 7-9 p.m.

Harley said he hopes everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday.
