Mamás Latinas de Warner Robins
WARNER ROBINS, Ga. – Mamás Latinas de Warner Robins is a virtual inclusive community created to connect Hispanic parents and allow them to be a part of the community.
Group admin and creator Jacqueline Guardia said the group is a channel of communication and she translates a lot of information already on social media from local organizations. The group not only helps parents and children, but Guardia also said they collaborate a lot with community partners to assist them with interpretation whenever they host events geared towards parents and children.
“It helps them become active members of our already diverse community in middle Georgia. Our goal is to introduce them so they can be a part of that community. We don’t want them segregated and we want them to be active members in the middle Georgia community by educating them and by advocating for them. That’s what we do and that’s our final result,” said Guardia.
Guardia said the group attends any event relevant to parents and children and community resource fairs. She also said they attend school meetings to help Hispanic parents build a relationship with the schools.
The group also hosts their own events and workshops, Guardia said their goal is to host them once a month. She said they started doing monthly cyber coffee meetings and brunches. Guardia said they try to keep it interactive for members to meet each other in person.
Guardia shares the group has grown a lot over a short period of time. According to the owner, the group started a little over a year ago in June 2022. Guardia said the group started with 340 members and now there are approximately over 1,200 members.
“We feel very proud of that. We are building a very unified community, we’re building trust. Our mothers and fathers feel a lot of connection with others,” said Guardia. “Every time we go live, and we talk to them about initiatives and activities from local entities, they hear us, and they feel motivated to participate, to be there, to ask questions, to look for opportunities for their own children. It’s been a very motivational ride for us.”
Guardia shares she created this group because she saw a need for it in the community. As a parent, she said she felt disconnected from her own community. The owner is originally from Florida, and she moved to the area almost three years ago.
“I felt lonely, and I said to myself, ‘I’m sure there are more Hispanic people here’ and also, I noticed there was a lot of families struggling with the same problem. I realized there was a lot of need of information,” said Guardia.
As someone with an education background, she decided to make the group focused on children and families. Therefore, the group was born and has been helping the Hispanic community ever since.
“We’re happy to have this beautiful community of strong mothers. A lot of them are entrepreneurs that we also assist using our platform to highlight their businesses and help them connect with opportunities for their brands to continue growing so that they can provide for their families,” said Guardia.
Guardia shared they also help other communities, community partners and organizations by translating flyers to have Spanish material out there. She encourages any local organization to reach out to them if they need help translating to help promote their events to the Hispanic community and they will happily help them.
