Northside still going toe-to-toe with some of the best
Northside’s (2-3) schedule isn’t made for the weak; four of the first five games were against top-10 teams in their respective classifications. This week doesn’t get any easier either as they matchup against Colquitt County (3-0) this Friday. Colquitt is No.3 in Class 7A on the Georgia High School Football Daily rankings. Colquitt has two victories with 50 or more points scored and defeated Valdosta, a region rival of Northside’s.
This will be the third game between the two programs, and Northside won the previous two matchups in 2008 and 2009. Northside lost to No.5 in Class 6A Richmond Hill last week 52-12 where the offense was restrained for the second week in a row. This Friday, they’ll face another daunting defense that held Valdosta to just 10 points scored.
Against Richmond Hill, Northside went down 28-0 in the first quarter. That can’t be the case against Colquitt County if they want to have a different outcome from last week.
Northside’s defense is their backbone, but when the offense isn’t clicking, it leaves the defense on the field and depletes a team’s morale during the course of a game.
Though quarterback, Elijah Robinson, running back, Jaylen Cephus, and Robinson’s number one target, Justin Luke, will obviously need to have a day, defeating teams like Colquitt call for unsung heroes to make an impact.
Colquitt’s explosive offense is complemented with a smash mouth defense; there’s no sneaking up on this team. Northside will likely need to play their best game so far to upset Colquitt this week.
Kickoff is Friday, Oct. 9 at 7:30 in The MAC Stadium.
