Commissioners, Sheriff recognize recent promotions

The Houston County Board of Commissioners, along with Sheriff Cullen Talton, recognized a slew of promotions during the commissioners’ meeting Wednesday in Perry.

“We congratulate you and we thank you,” said Commission Chairman Tommy Stalnaker. “We thank you for all of the sacrifices you make and for your service to this county and our nation.”

Added Commissioner Jay Walker – all of the commissioners singing sincere praises for Houston County’s law enforcement men and women: “Your (good) reputation far exceeds the boundaries of Houston County. I can tell you that. We appreciate you so much.”

Added Talton: “That’s the bad part of my job. You imagine I’m given eight to 10 great candidates for these jobs and I have to knock it down to two-to-three and then pick one.

“That’s a tough decision when you’ve got so many qualified and that deserve it.”

Those promoted were (the fact there were so many was due to a slew of retirements, Stalnaker said):

Tommy Jackson – Captain in Patrol Division promoted to Major (Chief Administrator)

Leo Frazier – Deputy promoted to Sergeant

Detention Center

Jessica Christian – Corporal promoted to Sergeant

Chris Deaton – Detention Officer promoted to Sergeant

Michael Dickerson – Detention Officer promoted to Corporal

E911 Center

Veronica Edens – Corporal promoted to Sergeant

John Mullis – Communications Officer promoted to Corporal

Dana Velarde – Communications Officer promoted to Corporal

Jodi Cannon – Part-time Calltaker promoted to Communications Officer

Amber Redding – Part-time Calltaker promoted to Communications Officer

Teena Swaffar – Part-time Calltaker promoted to Communications Officer

Mandy Burgess – Part-time Calltaker promoted to Communications Officer

Darron Jones – Traffic Deputy promoted to Corporal in Investigations
