All of God’s Children Got Shoes’
The Warner Robins Alumnae Chapter (WRAC) of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc hosted an “All of God’s Children Got Shoes” Shoe Drive which culminated in a packing and shipping event on April 13 at First Baptist Church Garmon St. in Warner Robins.
The WRAC’s International Awareness and Involvement Committee partnered with Soles4Souls, A Nashville based charity, to donate new and gently used shoes to victims of abject suffering in more than 130 different countries. The shoes will assist in preventing the spread of diseases introduced through the feet, allow kids to attend school, and help create jobs to eradicate poverty in Central America, South America, Africa, and the United States.
The goal was to collect over 2,013 pairs of shoes to honor the sorority’s celebration of “100 years of Scholarship, Sisterhood, and Service” in 2013.
The WRAC exceeded this goal. More than 2,500 donated shoes were packed and shipped by 60 volunteers from the Warner Robins Delta Academy/GEMS, Gamma Zeta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., JOY Foundation Inc., Warner Robins Kappa League, members of the sorority, and their families.
Area businesses/organizations that served as shoe donation centers or contributed proceeds to offset shipping costs include Alexis II Hair Salon, End Time Harvest Christian Center, Harvest Builders Center, Hebron Fellowship Baptist Church, Joyce Mack-Leonard Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, Middle Georgia Dental Group, Northside Family Dentistry, St. James CME, The Georgia Heart Center, Thomson Middle School, UGK Ministries, Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Urological Health Center, Westside Barber Shop, and Walmart.
The WRAC expresses sincere appreciation and thanks to the Middle Georgia community for helping to transform lives and impact communities on an international level.
