Centerville stabbing leaves one dead over the weekend, police investigating

CENTERVILLE — A man is dead after a stabbing at a home in Centerville on Sunday. Houston County Coroner James Williams and the Centerville Police Department confirmed the details in a joint statement. 

Williams said the victim has been identified as 31-year-old Cortez Lashawn Williamson. The residence where the attack took place is located at the 300 block of Ridgewood Drive. The victim was transported to Atrium Health Navicent, where he later died from his injuries shortly before midnight on Sunday.

CVPD is leading the investigation. Williams said the victim will be transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.

CVPD Lieutenant of Investigations Lawrence Spurgeon told the HHJ there is no active threat to the public, but did not provide any additional information on the incident. 

The stabbing marks the third homicide of the year, according to Williams. He said further updates will come from the Centerville Police Department.
