WRPD canines honored
Ego, Ollie and Rasty, the furry four legged friends that
make up the Warner Robins Police Department K9 Unit were honored on Wednesday.
Local State Farm Agent Kevin Barry presented the hardworking
canines and their handlers with their very own badges.
“The canines are a part of our team. They help us fight
crime,” said Warner Robins Mayor Chuck Shaheen.
Barry said his purpose in purchasing the badges for the
canines is to show his commitment to the community.
At the ceremony, it was evident that the canines are serious
about work, but are also very loving toward their handlers. Rasty felt
compelled to stand on his hind legs and get some loving attention from his
handler.
Police dogs are treated the same as officers; assaulting or
killing a police canine in Georgia carries the same penalty as committing those
crimes against a human officer.
