WR Police investigating vehicle v. pedestrian crash

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — The Warner Robins Police Department is now investigating after a man was struck by a vehicle and killed over the weekend.

According to the police department, the incident happened around 9 p.m. Sunday night around 2010 Watson Boulevard.

The department began investigating the scene that night. Preliminary investigations showed that a pedestrian was crossing the street and traveling northbound on Watson. A vehicle saw the pedestrian crossing the roadway and slowed down to avoid striking the victim.

A second vehicle, identified as a Kia Sorento, was traveling westbound in the right lane then struck the victim, who was shielded from view by the other vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene. The victim, identified as 38-year-old David Clayton of Warner Robins, was transported to Houston Medical Center and pronounced deceased.

Since Clayton was not in a crosswalk, the police department said the driver was not at fault. Still, Sgt. Tim Pippio reminded the public to be cognizant of pedestrians, and for pedestrians to use a crosswalk, using past cases as an example.

“Every one of our pedestriand collisions have been outside of a crosswalk,” Pippio said.

At time of press, the accident is still under investigation.
