Daron Lee

Warner Robins City Councilman Daron Lee announced Tuesday in

front of city hall that he is running for mayor.

Lee said, “I have a vision for our city. It includes serving

all of the people, not just some of the people.”

Things Lee mentioned as part of his vision is seeking

federal grant money for the blighted areas of the city, public transportation,

a health clinic in the north part of town, parks and recreation and continued

support of Robins Air Force Base.

Lee said that his experience as a councilman gives him an

advantage over the other candidates.

He also stated that he and Mayor Chuck Shaheen spoke

previously about his intention to run for mayor, and Shaheen supports his bid.

Lee would not specify if Shaheen would run again. However,

he did say that he would not run for the position if Shaheen were going to run

for re-election.

This was the first of the announcements that Shaheen was

present.

Lee would have been up for re-election of his council seat

had he not announced his bid for the mayor’s seat.

Lee will not have to vacate his Post 5 seat upon qualifying

for the mayor’s race in August because the city charter allows for a council

member who is up for re-election to hold their seat until election time.

Joe Musselwhite

An employee of 21 years for the City of Warner Robins has

announced his bid for the mayoral election.

Joe Musselwhite, who currently serves the city as public

works director said he turned his retirement papers Monday, but wants to

continue to serve the citizens just in a different capacity.

“My enjoyment has come from working for the people. I

believe government is about the people and working hard for the people,”

Musselwhite said.

Without getting into much detail, Musselwhite highlighted

economic development and communication as top priorities for his vision for the

city.

Musselwhite noted that he was born and raised in Houston

County. His father was an educator and coach in Warner Robins and his mother

worked at Macon College.

Musselwhite said he believes his knowledge of city

government and his deep roots in the community make him the right choice as

mayor of the City of Warner Robins.
