An idea that was sparked less than a year ago has come

full-circle with the completion of a disc golf course in Perry.

Rob Brooks, the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce chairman,

said the disc golf course is a good excuse to “get outside and spend time with

the family,” during the ribbon cutting held at Rozar Park on Monday.

The 18-hole course opened to the public a month ago with the

majority of the crowds playing on the weekend, said Councilman Joe Posey, who

spearheaded the creation of the course.

“On the weekends, it’s packed,” he said. “There may be

(around) 50 people a day” playing during the weekend.

Out of all 18 holes, Posey said No. 16 was probably the hardest

due to the fact that players have to throw over a creek. Players will also have

to watch out of other water hazards, like the pond located next to a few of the

holes and trees that block a direct throw to the hole.

The holes are elevated metal baskets on a pole, and the tee

areas are paved with concrete to provided players with a smooth surface to tee

off.

“It’s a great workout, but you wouldn’t think so because

you’re sauntering around with a Frisbee,” joked Posey, who then described the

discs as smaller than Frisbees and especially made for the game.

He stated that the course took a little less than a year to

complete and was paid for by sponsorships of the holes.

Posey noted that a tournament will be held on Jan. 26

starting at 10:15 at Rozar Park (1060 Keith Dr.). The two-person scramble will

cost $30 per team with lunch provided. There will be cash prizes for the first

and second place teams. For more information call 478-988-2860.
