Perry names Steve Lynn New Police Chief
The Perry City Council voted unanimously Friday night to hire Stephen Lynn as the Chief of Police.
Lynn currently works for the Houston County District Attorney’s Office as an investigator. He previously worked for Warner Robins Police Department where he spent most of his law enforcement career.
Lynn started in Warner Robins as a patrolman in 1981 and quickly rose through the ranks to Captain, the position he held at the time of his retirement in 2007.
Lynn, who accepted the job via telephone Friday night, said, “I am thrilled to come to Perry and build on the excellent foundation Chief Potter built.”
According to Lynn his first order of business will be to get to know his employees. He said he doesn’t have a step-by-step plan of his goals for the department because be needs to “see what works”.
Before offering Lynn the position, Mayor Jimmy Faircloth said, “The council thought he would be the best fit.”
The Mayor said council members based their decision on Lynn’s scores from the Georgia Police Chief’s Association, training and knowledge.
Faircloth said the salary range would be between $65,800 and $93,900. The package will come complete with standard benefits.
The benefits include a city vehicle, annual clothing allowance and the city will pay for certifications and membership in the Georgia Police Chief’s Association, stated Faircloth.
Lynn said that he would start his new job sometime in January, noting he had a few things at the District Attorney’s Office to complete before moving to the new position as head of Perry’s Police Department.
