Perry man honored as Museum of Aviation Volunteer of the Quarter

Ron Geary from Perry has been named Volunteer of the Quarter at the Museum of Aviation. He and his wife Dollie were honored June 13 at the Museum of Aviation Foundation board of directors meeting.
Geary is a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served from August 1951 until his retirement in August 1971. He has served more than 1,500 hours as a Museum of Aviation volunteer since 2005.
Geary served at nine different bases in his Air Force career, including assignments in Japan, Australia and Thailand. He also spent a tour in Oslo, Norway, training Norwegian C-130 electricians.
After his retirement, Ron worked as superintendent of buildings and grounds and energy manager for the Charleston County, S.C., School District. He supervised and operated energy conservation equipment in 69 county schools.
In 1998 Ron and his wife moved to Perry and for the next five years Ron managed a 144-unit apartment complex. He spent the next seven years at the Ace Hardware store.
In his comments to the board of directors, Ron said he had the best job at the Museum. “Where else can you spend four hours a week telling people where to go!’
