Perry city council members denied a proposed ordinance that would have prevented residents from parking their RVs, trailers and commercial vehicles in their side yard if it is next to a street.
“Why should we distinguish a house on a corner when they have nowhere to put it (the RV),” asked Councilman William Jackson during the pre-council session Tuesday. “We are going to create a whole different issue.”
The discussion in the pre-council meeting uncovered that the ordinance’s creation was based on one complaint, which was described as “retaliatory.”
“We need to concentrate on enforcing the front yard and right of way (ordinances),” stated Jackson.
Currently, residents cannot park their RVs, trailers and commercial vehicles in their front yard or in right of ways.
During the regular session, the council unanimously denied the ordinance.
In other business, council voted to increase the appropriation for the 21st Century Partnership by $4,900 for the 2013 fiscal year.
