To better understand the changing role of nursing homes in the delivery of healthcare in Georgia, Rep. Larry O’Neal and Sen. Ross Tolleson were guest of honor during Open House held at Summerhill Senior Community.

They were welcomed by Barbara Register, administrator, and were given a tour of the facility. Both Rep. O’Neal and Sen. Tolleson spent time talking with Bill Davis, owner of Summerhill Senior Community, to gain a better understanding of issues surroudning the care of the sick, frail, and elderly in Georgia and the impact of changes in Georgia’s Medicaid reimbursement.

Approximately 50 people attended and enjoyed the opportunity to also see the amenities of Summerhill Senior Community. Both Rep. O’Neal and Sen. Tolleson praised Summerhill Senior Community for its commitment and dedication to the community.

Sen. Tolleson has had close family members at Summerhill Senior Community in the past and expressed his firm appreciation and approval with the care they received from the staff at Summerhill.

“We were very happy and encouraged to have Representative Larry O’Neal and Senator Ross Tolleson visit Summerhill today,” said Davis. “I was impressed by that they took time out of their busy schedule to talk with us about our concerns and to view first-hand the care delivered here.”

This Open House is part of the Georgia Health Care Association’s campaign to update the Georgia Legislature on the evolving role of nursing homes and other providers of healthcare services to our state’s frail, sick, and elderly ahead of next year’s legislative session.
