A Perry business, Mike’s Golf Carts, is vying for a world
record when it comes to the world’s longest golf cart.
The goal of breaking a world record came about when Mike
Williams’ children brought home a Guinness Book of World Records and they
started to talk about the current record holder.
“I can go bigger than that,” he said about the 21-foot long
golf cart that is located in China.
What once was an average sized golf cart has been fabricated
into what Williams’ hopes will break the world record.
Williams said, “the whole thing was fun,” but he said the
design, which included “making changes along the way and seeing it come
together,” was the best part of the project.
The golf cart sits on 49-inch tires and will have to travel
100 meters, according to Andrew Sleeth, in order to make it into the record
book.
There was a total of 50 hours of work over two years to
build the golf cart.
Williams said the family-run business specializes in
custom-made golf carts.
“Whatever they want, we can build,” Williams said. “We take
golf carts to the next level.”
On May 30 from noon to 2 p.m., an official measurement will
be taken by Ocmulgee, Inc.
The event that is free and open to the public will include
hot dogs, a monster truck, Bounty Hunter. Oh Yeah! Inflatables will have
multiple inflatables at the event for the children to play on free of charge.
Signs will be posted on where to park. Mike’s Golf Carts is
located at 2434 Hwy. 341 N. in Perry.
