The Houston County Board of Education approved Superintendent Robin Hines’ recommendation to name Lazunia Frierson the new executive director for elementary operations.

She will assume the job duties this July. Frierson currently serves as principal of Linwood Elementary.

“It is an honor and a privilege to serve as the executive director of elementary operations,” said Frierson. “I look forward to continuing to support our schools in the great work already accomplished. The Houston County School System produces phenomenal students and has excellent educators. I am very fortunate to be able to give back to the school system that has given so much more to me.”

A native of Warner Robins, she is a product of the Houston County School System and a graduate of Northside High School. She earned a bachelor of science in secondary education with an emphasis in English from Valdosta State University.

Her educational career began when she became an English teacher and cheerleading coach at Northside High. During her time at Northside, she earned a master’s and specialist in education administration and supervision from Georgia College and State University. She served for five years as assistant principal at Lindsey Elementary before being named the principal in 2007.

Frierson is replacing Cindy Flesher, who has been selected as the new assistant superintendent for school operations.
