This weekend, the Houston County High School’s theatre

department will offer a “historical snap shot” of life in the United States at

the start of the 20th century with it’s presentation of Ragtime, the Musical.

The musical follows three families of different social

standing whose lives intersect, while showcasing the major issues of that time,

such as race relations, immigration, industrialization and social upheaval,

said Bronwyn Jardin, Houston County High School’s theatre director.

The musical mixes fictional characters with historical

figures like Harry Houdini, Emma Goldman, Henry Ford and Booker T. Washington,

to name a few.

“This is the first time, in a long time, that Ragtime has been done as a full

production,” said Jardin, who went on to say that she, along with Keith Tiller,

the music director, and Melanie Smith, the assistant director, are proud of the

students.

“We will have a sign language interpreter for Friday night’s

performance,” stated Jardin.

Performances are March 21 to 23 at 7 p.m. in the school

theatre. Adult tickets are $10. On opening night, March 21, senior citizen (65+

years of age) tickets are $5. All student tickets are $5.
