Fire Departments across Houston County put together golf tournament for Fire Chief Williams
All fire departments across Houston County (Houston County, Warner Robins, Centerville, Perry) worked to put together a fundraising golf tournament on Friday afternoon for longtime Houston County Fire Chief Jimmy Williams, who was recently diagnosed with stage-4 pancreatic cancer.
The golf tournament held at the International City Golf Course on 100 Sandy Run Drive in Warner Robins was the fifth fundraiser event that has been organized for Chief Williams over the last month.
“It was something that was really amazing to be a part of. We put all that together and organized it in about a three-week period,” said Houston County Assistant Fire Chief Christopher Stoner, explaining how the event went. “Most golf tournaments like that take three months to organize to get the outcome we got, and we were able to do it in about three weeks, which is amazing.”
There were a total of 26 teams that participated, with four people on each team. Stoner said that as of Friday afternoon when they were tallying up the funds raised for the golf tournament, the total amount was roughly around $14,000. Stoner said everything for the tournament was donated and all the money brought in will go to Chief Williams.
As far as putting together any more fundraisers for Chief Williams, Stoner said that they will look to possibly do something at the beginning of next year. “It was overwhelming, the amount of people who came,” said Stoner. “Even the people who didn’t play but came out to lend a hand with everything was amazing.”
