Westfield’s wrestling Hornets won 11 of the 13 weight

classes Thursday during the GISA Region 2-AAA traditional tournament held on

their home campus.

Already the dual state champions, Westfield’s final

competition of the 2013 season is the GISA state individual meet. That will

take place at Tattnall Square Academy in Macon Feb. 8-9.

Tattnall Square was in Perry Thursday for region along with

Stratford and Mt. de Sales. Westfield had a wrestler in every final while

Tattnall Square was in eight of the finals, winning two.

One of Westfield’s top victories in terms of action went to

Jon Allen Snellgrove at 120. He and his MDS adversary were tied 4-4 in the

third period, then Snellgrove gained the advantage at 1:29. MDS took it back on

a takedown with 30 seconds on the clock, but with a late escape Snellgrove won

8-7.

Ty Forrester, at heavyweight, made a late escape in the

first period and pinned his MDS foe with six seconds on the clock. 113-pound

Dayton Hammerle scored a second-period pin while trailing in points.

Josh Kinnebrew (106), Conner Cawthon (152) and Ben Brooks

(138) won by major decision. Chandler Bohanaon, Bryce Westmoreland, Griffin

Cawthon, Austin Jenkins and Walker Davison all won by pin.
