Grant supports programs at Central Georgia Tech

Beginning fall semester 2013, students entering three specific program areas at the new Central Georgia Technical College will have the opportunity to receive additional grant funding to pay for tuition and fees.

Georgia introduced and approved the Strategic Industries Workforce Development Grant (SIWDG) during the 2013 Legislative session. The grant provides funding for students in three career areas identified as high demand careers for Georgia.

Those programs include commercial truck driving, early childhood care and education, and practical nursing.

Students applying for the grant must be approved for the HOPE Grant approved and fully admitted to Central Georgia Technical College.

The SIWDG provides a one-time grant of $1,000 to eligible commercial truck driving students. The grant will provide $500 for eligible students enrolled in early childhood care and education or practical nursing and taking nine or more credit hours. Students enrolled in these programs but taking eight credit hours or less will receive $250.

Central Georgia Technical College offers the commercial truck driving program on the Warner Robins campus, as well as at the Putnam County Center in Eatonton and at the Hawkinsville Workforce Development Center. Both practical nursing and early childhood care and education are offered at the Macon, Milledgeville, and Warner Robins campuses. Core classes for these programs can also be taken at sites in Putnam, Crawford, and Pulaski counties and online.
