Houston Healthcare employees to receive increase

The Houston Healthcare System board approved employee merit and compensation adjustments on Wednesday. Vice president of Human Resources for Houston Healthcare Mike O’Hara said the merit increase will be capped at two percent, but the actual payout after employee evaluations will average out to 1.67 percent.

“Between the years 2008 through 2015, we benefitted from the effects of the recession,” said O’Hara. “We’ve been very conservative in regards to providing increases in employee pay over the last three years. Our main priority is maintaining the great employees we already have with high skills and recruiting their replacement because the baby boomers are aging out of the work force.”

O’Hara shared that hospitals are seeing a shortage in nurses and paramedics nationwide. One thing in particular he said he is seeing in Georgia that has never really happened is representatives from Atlanta are now coming to Middle Georgia to look for talent.

Board member and chairman of the finance committee Jack Ragland said the committee reviewed and approved the merit increase and compensation adjustments prior to Wednesday’s meeting. Having no further discussion the board unanimously voted to approve. O’Hara said the vote will go into effect immediately.
