Two years of hard work has culminated in the opening of Family Promise of Greater Houston County, which will help the area’s homeless families get back on their feet.

The main office and Day Center, located at 213 McArthur Blvd., hosted a dedication and ribbon cutting Wednesday.

“Family Promise is all about helping the children,” said Ronnie Shivers, the board president.

According to Shivers, Family Promise is a host of local churches and volunteers that have come together to provide assistance for homeless families in Houston County. Families that need assistance and have met certain requirements will spend the night at local churches. During the day while the children are at school, the parents will be at the Day Center, where a professional social worker will provide case management services and the parents can look for employment.

Family Promise will “make sure every child has a home so they can be raised in a good environment when they go to school,” stated Warner Robins Mayor Chuck Shaheen.

Currently there are 14 host congregations and 11 support congregations, said Shivers.

Family Promise will be working with the Board of Education and other government and non-profit services to help homeless families.

“It is one great big network involving the entire community,” Shivers said.

On May 12, the organization plans on opening its doors to families.

“What better day to start,” stated Shivers. “On Mother’s Day.”
