Homicide at Cru Lounge — the third Warner Robins homicide in three days

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Forty-five minutes after midnight on Tuesday, Warner Robins Police responded to a 911 call in reference to a person being shot. Forty-five minutes later, the victim was pronounced deceased. Investigators with the Warner Robins Police Department (WRPD) are actively working the scene.

At 12:45 a.m. on Tuesday, WRPD was notified of person shot at Cru Lounge, 85 South Highway 247. The victim, 24-year-old Shamair Mitchell, was being transported in a private vehicle to Houston Medical Center for his injuries. Police Chief John Wagner provided details on the incident.

According to Wagner, Mitchell was inside the lounge just moments before the incident. Reportedly, Mitchell was a part of a physical altercation within the lounge and was escorted outside. While in the parking lot, he was struck by gunfire from an unknown suspect.

At 1:30 a.m., Mitchell succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators are working in tandem at Cru Lounge and Houston Medical Center to discover what happened and who was involved. According to Wagner, they are following a number of leads.

“It’s going well,” Wagner said. “We have some starting points, we’re not running dry by any means.”

Meanwhile, he provided a message meant for the shooter: “Turn yourself in. Let yourself be known.”

While much of WRPD is investigating this homicide, the department is also working to investigate two others. Wagner called for the end of gun violence and community accountability.

“This is nonsensical gun violence — Warner Robins is not immune to it, Warner Robins is a big city,” Wagner said. “We have to be better as a community. That means putting your guns down, walking away from arguments. There’s other ways of dealing with conflict than pulling out your gun and shooting. Whether you’re hitting the intended target or someone innocent, it’s totally unnecessary. It’s frustrating to us as a department.”

WRPD will continue to investigate all three of these recent homicides — one of which already has an arrest — in the coming days and weeks.
