Each year, Georgia 4-H’ers spend

a weekend at Rock Eagle 4-H Center to compete in District Project Achievement

(DPA) The 4-H member project is a culmination of knowledge gathered and

presented about a topic chosen from various categories designed to educate and

improve societal and environmental awareness among youth. The winning 4-H’ers

from each category advance to represent their district at National4-H Congress.

For Houston County 4-H, part of

the 4-H Southwest District, Senior 4-H’ers Kevin Braski and Mallorie Talvan

placed first in their respective categories, earning them Master 4-H’er status.

The title of Master 4-H’er is awarded to 4-H youth who demonstrate exceptional

proficiency in their chosen project area. Kevin Braski’s winning presentation

focuses on Workforce Development; while Mallorie Talvan’s presentation

discusses Human Development and Teenage Suicide.

As such, Kevin and Mallorie attended

the National 4-H Congress in Atlanta, Georgia, in November. While at the event,

4-H attendees fundraised for the Atlanta-based Habitat for Humanity. Over $500

was donated for the construction of the third Habitat for Humanity home in

Atlanta. More than 150 hours of community service werecontributed by 4-H’ers during National 4-H Congress.

Houston County 4-H is part of the

National 4-H organization which aims to educate youth through “hands-on”

learning experiences based in agricultural, environmental, and health-related

subjects.  You can learn more about
