On Tuesday, the Warner Robins City Council voted to purchase

Walker’s Pond for $75,000.

The item that was not listed on the agenda came up for vote

at the end of the meeting.

Councilman Mike Davis said, “We want to make this a nice

park.”

He noted that a lot could be done in this beautiful spot for

people to visit.

Mayor Chuck Shaheen said the area is “prime location for

recreation.”

Just after the meeting, during press interviews about all

the recent land purchases made for recreation, Councilman Mike Brashear said

the original sports complex site has plans to be sold.

Brashear didn’t elaborate on what the site would be other

than saying it involved Robins Air Force Base and creating jobs.

On Thursday Shaheen said, “The City of Warner Robins will

work with local legislators and Gov. Deal in any way possible to support the

mission of getting veterans back into the work force.”

There is mention that the site could potentially become a

military retraining center.

The center would be geared toward training military veterans

for the private workforce.

The 44-acre site is located northwest of Russell Parkway and

Ga. 247. The property was originally planned to host tournament softball games,

but has since been a hot topic of discussion for elected officials. It was

decided that the site was not suitable to be a sports complex.
