Burglar sentenced to 20 years after breaking into multiple churches

J.D. Solomon, 53, of Warner Robins, GA was found guilty in Houston Superior Court of burglary on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, following a two-day jury trial. Solomon was sentenced to 20 years and ordered to serve the first 15 years in prison without the possibility of parole. In addition to the prison time, Solomon was also banished from Houston County and all contiguous counties upon his release.

At approximately 11:30 P.M. on September 4, 2011, officers with the Warner Robins Police Department responded to a burglary alarm at Christian Fellowship Church. When police arrived, they found Solomon standing near one of the church buildings with a window broken out. He was holding a ladder that he had just stolen from another church building. His boots resembled the footprints left around the property. Solomon had five previous convictions for burglary.

“Burglaries are extremely dangerous crimes which oftentimes put lives in jeopardy,” stated Assistant District Attorney Jacob W. Poole in a news release. “They will not, under any circumstances, be tolerated in this county. Special thanks to the Warner Robins Police Department  officers for all of their hard work.”

“The swift response by Warner Robins Police resulted in Solomon being caught at the scene, in the act. Anyone who burglarizes a church in Houston County had better be prepared to go to prison,” added District Attorney George Hartwig. “The many churches in our community are supported by tithes and offerings from their members and the decent, hard-working citizens that regularly attend. It is despicable to burglarize or otherwise prey on a church.”

The sentence was imposed by Judge Edward D. Lukemire on the afternoon of February 5.  Solomon was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Jacob W. Poole and Greg W. Winters.
