The Houston County school system has concluded the effort to

centralize registration for all students Tuesday and officially opened the

Central Registration Office.

The Central Registration office was built “so we can provide

great customer service to those who are moving in and moving from zone to

zone,” stated superintendent Robin Hines at the ceremony Tuesday.

The office will “take the burden off of the schools,”

because parents will have one place to go in order to register their child for

school.

In addition to the registration office, the International

Welcome Center and the Homeless Liaison office is housed in the building. {{more}}

During the ceremony, Tom Walmer, chairman of the board of

education, noted that the building had been nicknamed “The Horne” after Linda

Horne, the assistant superintendent for school operations. Walmer stated that

the office would continue to have the nickname after he unveiled a saxophone

that had been mounted on a plaque.

“This is an honor,” said Hone. “This is not about me, but

the people who have worked together in this system.”

In a release from the school system, Horne explained that

the “overall goal is to improve customer service. This central site will help

expedite the process, ensure consistency across all 38 of our schools, and make

it more convenient for those with children in more than one school.”

Valerie Noah, Central Registration secretary, said in a

release, “We are excited to invite the public to our ribbon cutting ceremony.

We have lots of beautiful student artwork decorating our building and would

love to show everyone what we are all about here at Central Registration!”

Pre-Kindergarten registration will be held at this site from

Feb. 19 to Mar. 15, 2013.

The Central Registration office is located at 303 South Davis Dr. inside the

Bert Rumble Complex.

Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
