BOE approves new contract for Hines

Houston County superintendent of schools Robin Hines has a

new contract, and Houston County High School has a new head football

coach/athletic director.

Both moves were approved by the county board of education at

its monthly meeting Tuesday.

The current contract for Hines, who became the school

superintendent for Houston County in June 2010, expires on May 31.

Board

chairman Tom Walmer said Hines and the board discussed a new contract and

agreed to one that will run for three years beginning on June 1.

Walmer, who himself was re-elected by his fellow board

members to the position of chairman at the start of the meeting, said he

appreciates Hines’ value to the school system and that they will continue to

raise the bar of performance expectations that were already raised these last

few years.

Board member Marianne Melnick made the motion to approve the

new contract, which will expire on May 31, 2016.

Board member Skip Dawkins said he was impressed by how Hines

has handled the position since he’s had to face issues past superintendents

didn’t have to face.

Melnick also made the motion to approve Hines’

recommendation for the hiring of Von Lassiter as the new athletic director and

head football coach for Houston County High. This motion was approved

unanimously.

Lassiter is the defensive coordinator at West Laurens High

School. He replaces Greg Robinson, who resigned after the 2012 season after

five years leading the Bears program.
