American Legion honors public safety

The American Legion Post 24 honored three outstanding members in public safety

Monday night at the Perry Arts Center.

The officers had dinner with the post and were presented with awards for their

service to the community.

Firefighter Darryl Kitchens was the recipient of the firefighter award.

Kitchens has been with Perry Fire Department since 2009. He was named recruit

of the year in 2009 and became and EMT in 2010. Kitchens is currently pursuing

a degree in history and will be promoted to Sergeant later this month. In

addition to his firefighting duties, Kitchens is responsible for the supplies

and logistics for the department.

Corporal Craig Fowler was nominated to receive the award and represent Perry

Police Department. Fowler was recognized for his hard work and extensive work

in the departments state certification process. It was also noted that Fowler

is an ambassador for the department to the community through the neighborhood

watch program.

 

 

Georgia State Patrol Trooper

Willie Wood was recognized for his hard work and dedication. Wood retired for the Georgia

Army National Guard after 22 years of service and then began another career of

selfless service by joining the GSP in 2009. Wood was complimented on his

willingness to always complete a task is asked to do without any complaint.
