A NHS student in ‘Jeopardy!’ – Who is William Crouch, Alex

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

It is the game that gives the player the answer, and then

the player asks the question. One student from Northside High School got his

chance to ask the questions in Friday’s episode of the “Jeopardy!”

William Crouch, who is a sophomore, traveled to Los Angeles

in November to participate in the “Jeopardy! Teen Tournament.”

“I didn’t think in a million years that this would happen,”

stated Crouch, who explained that his favorite part of the experience was

meeting all of the people and becoming friends with the other contestants.

He said there were 15 other contestants plus an alternate.

Three of the teens were from Georgia, said Kelly Miyahara, a member of the

“Jeopardy!” Clue Crew who was in Warner Robins Friday to moderate a special

version of the long-running game show in Crouch’s chemistry class.

Crouch was selected from almost 10,000 teens who applied to

compete for the prize of $75,000.

As part of Crouch’s award for being on “Jeopardy!”, his

chemistry class got to enjoy the classroom version of the game on Friday.

Jami Moore’s honors chemistry class was divided into three

teams, the protons, neutrons and electrons. When the teams were selected, a

member of the neutrons joked, “Yah, we don’t do anything!”

After two rounds that included categories such as “worldly

words”, “team cities”, and chemistry related categories like “mole” and “ion

formulas” mixed in with the regular categories, the teams reached the final

round, and the category pertained to Crouch’s hobby.

The students placed their wagers and wrote the “five-letter

acronym” on a small whiteboard.

“What is SCUBA?” was the answer, and each team was correct.

The winners of the game were the protons with 28,000 points,

and the neutrons and electrons tied with 20,000.

The classroom “Jeopardy!” game was given to the school

and each student in the class got a “Jeopardy!'” hat that had “get a clue!”

written on the back.

Crouch’s winning episode aired on Feb. 1.
