WRPD investigating shooting on Watson

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — A man was shot and killed during an argument over the weekend, local law enforcement said.

According to the Warner Robins Police Department, around 2 p.m. on Oct. 15, officers responded to the scene, close to 1128 Watson Boulevard. According to preliminary investigations, the incident began as an argument between two male subjects and escalated into gunfire between the two.

The police department said that 22-year-old Tamar Lewis confronted 26-year-old Jacolyn Jenkins at the scene and started shooting at him. Jenkins returned fire and dialed 911 after fleeing the scene. Lewis was taken to Atrium Health Navicent and later pronounced deceased.

The incident is currently under investigation and is being treated as self-defense, and the police department admits this case is a unique situation for the department.

“Any time you have a situation similar to this, I guess you could certainly say one party is going to always claim and allege self defense as their primary defense, but in this particular case, that is definitely what the investigation has indicated,” Interim Chief Wayne Fisher said.

Fisher further explained that both parties knew each other, and this incident was part of an ongoing conflict between the subjects involved. Lewis was found to be the primary antagonist in this incident.

Fisher assured the public that this was an isolated incident.

“This was directly involving two people.” Fisher said. “There wouldn’t have been anything that would have prevented this contact from having occurred. It was not like it was a random act. The one party had sought out the other.”

Fisher called on the community to find different means to settle differences, implying that this incident could have affected more than just the two subjects involved.

“We need to understand and respect each other, learn to resolve our differences through dialogue and not resorting to such violent means,” Fisher said. “It’s totally inappropriate in places that create greater public harm and put them in jeopardy.

“There were several shots fired, and it was a miracle that nobody else was injured. We had significant property damage, and other vehicles being shot, and fortunately we didn’t have any other human loss or injuries from this.”

As of press time on Tuesday, this incident is still under investigation. Anyone with more information is encouraged to contact Detective Chad Pierce at (478) 302-5393.
