The Warner Robins Police Department donated $5,373 to the Joanna McAfee Childhood Cancer Foundation in Warner Robins Friday. Public information officer Jennifer Parsons said this was the second year the department raised funds from their haunted house and donated to local organization. Last year, the department donated to the Special Olympics.
“We are excited as we came close to double of what we raised last year,” said Parsons. “It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of our community, and all our volunteers who participated in the haunted house.”
Stated on the Joanna McAfee website the foundation is a nonprofit organization started by Jeff and Misty McAfee as a way to memorialize their daughter, Joanna McAfee, who died of a rare and aggressive form of childhood cancer, and to help other kids stricken with cancer. Jeff, who is president of the foundation, said him and his wife are overwhelmed with the support of the police department and community.
“These guys worked six nights to raise funds for our foundation, and we are so grateful to them,” said Jeff. “We also would like to thank all those in the community who came out each night to support us and the police department. The donation we received, all of it will go to our end of the year research grants for specific types of cancer.”
