Written threat at Veterans High

On Tuesday, March 16, a violent threat was discovered written on a bathroom wall at Veterans High School. Kevin Harper, a Houston County Sheriff’s Deputy, was called by the School Resource Officer (SRO). “He told me that a juvenile had made an indirect threat to the school by writing on the wall in the bathroom, the boys bathroom.” According to Harper, there were two witnesses who spoke to the SRO, Deputy Lawrence. Through information provided by these witnesses, Lawrence was able to determine the juvenile offender was. The juvenile was brought to Juvenile Department at the Sheriff’s Office, and then taken to the Youth Detention Center.

The threat read: “I’M SHOOTING UP THE SCHOOL TMR killing everyone in my first period after the principal.”

Several parents have asked why they were not notified, and why the school was not put on lock-down.

According to Harper, the threat said something insinuating a potential school shooting after the student’s first period the following day. Harper also noted, “It was an indirect threat, and from what I’ve been told, the youth may have some mental issues as well.”

The Journal reached out to Beth McLaughlan, Director of Community and School Affairs, but she was not available for comment.
