WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — An initial call regarding a domestic dispute in a public parking lot turned into a shooting investigation Saturday, after police arrived on scene to the sounds of shots fired. WRPD provided addition details below:

According to Public Information Officer Lt. Eric Gossman, a couple arguing in the parking lot of 1041 Russell Parkway had their discussion cut short when a vehicle containing four individuals pulled into the parking lot. One of the two in the couple, a male, saw a weapon coming from within the arriving vehicle and ran to his car to attempt to flee. Shots were fired from the pursuing vehicle, striking the victim’s and rendering it disabled. The pursuing vehicle and its occupants fled the scene. A witness reported that the shooter’s vehicle fled east on Russell Parkway.

Additional officers arrives on scene moments later, and after checking on the officer on scene, made chase.

Police followed the route of the fleeing vehicle into a nearby subdivision, and discovered a rifle matching the caliber of rounds that struck the victim’s.

It is suspected by WRPD that a patrolling officer stopped the shooter’s vehicle shortly after in a traffic stop as a result of probable cause, however, without sustainable evidence to identify the four in the vehicle as the shooter(s), they were not held. Two of the four individuals in the vehicle were arrested for outstanding Bibb County warrants unrelated to this incident — the other two in the vehicle were released, and the car was returned to its registered owner. It is unclear at this time who the shooter is, or if they have been arrested.

While the victim’s car was struck by gunfire, no one was harmed.

WRPD continues to investigate this incident. Detective Chad Pierce is the lead investigator on the case — anyone with additional information is asked to call Pierce at (478) 302-5380, or Macon Regional Crimestoppers at (478) 742-2330.
