WR Councilman Lee to resign
In an email to Warner Robins Mayor Randy Toms on Monday, October 12, 2020, Councilman Daron Lee (Post 1), submitted his letter of resignation to take effect at the close of business on October 30, 2020.
The city of Warner Robins released the information regarding Lee’s resignation, Tuesday. Councilman Lee said in his email, “I have indeed prayed and meditated on this decision in order to weigh the pros and cons leading to what is best for my well-being.”
Lee further shared with the Houston Home Journal that his main reasoning for resigning at this time is because he is the primary caregiver of his parents.
“For the past couple of months, I have taken on as the primary caregiver of my parents,” Lee said. “My father has dementia, and my mother’s physical state is declining. And I just want to make sure that their later years are their best years. I’m in a position now to be able to help, and I want them to be comfortable. I think I can sacrifice politics right now because they’re my number one priority.”
Lee went on to say that he doesn’t need a title to serve or be involved in the community. He hopes to continue to serve on the Redevelopment Agency and the Neighborhood Committee. Lee also hopes the next person elected to Post 1 will be diverse and a voice for the city.
“We have gained a positive state, and I want that to continue for the mayor and council,” Lee said. “Working together is better, and we can do a lot more together. You know, just because the community sees council disagree in public—that’s just politics—there’s no hate on the table. But I do think together is better regardless of race and status. We need someone to bring us together to move forward.”
Lee’s last council meeting will be Oct. 19. Stated in a press release, Councilman Lee has served the City of Warner Robins since being elected for a second term in December of 2017 and officially taking office in January 2018. He currently serves on the Redevelopment Agency and the Neighborhood Committee.
In compliance with section 5.13 of the City of Warner Robins Charter, there will be a special election to fill the vacant seat. More information will follow regarding details of the special election.
