Woman steals $375K from Perdue over the course of two years, faces one count of bank fraud
The GDI employee faces one count of bank fraud after stealing $375,757.69 from Perdue “ghost employees” for two years.
PERRY – A GDI employee stole approximately $375,757.69 using Perdue “ghost employees,” a criminal case filed on June 3 in the Middle District of Georgia said.
Court documents revealed Ashley Moore was employed by the GDI in Centerville. Part of her duties included hiring and managing employees hired to work at Perdue.
According to court documents, beginning on or around Dec. 1, 2022, and continuing through on or about March 31, 2024, Moore made it appear that former GDI employees had been rehired to work at Perdue. She would then submit hours worked for these “ghost employees.” The document says in reality, these people had not been rehired and had not worked for GDI and Perdue.
GDI provided their employees with Rapid Cards, the document said. Moore would provide employees she hired with Rapid Cards and was also responsible for processing their payroll. The employees would activate the card, and their payroll would then be deposited into the card.
Moore would take the Rapid Cards for “ghost employees” and activate them. Once payroll was deposited onto the cards, she would either take the cards to ATMs to withdraw cash or use the cards to make point-of-sale transactions.
During that time, Moore used the identities of eight “ghost employees” to bill Perdue $266,248.35 in wages, which totaled to $375,757.69 that Perdue had to pay for those wages and GDI’s service fees, according to court documents.
Moore faces one count of bank fraud.
