HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — While attempting to dump trash and other materials at the Houston County Sold Waste Facility, a woman and her husband were caught unaware as a second large vehicle overturned nearby. The woman was trapped underneath the vehicle.

The Journal spoke with Houston County Fire Chief Chris Stoner while on scene for more details.

“A little after 10:30 [Monday] morning, we were notified of a traffic accident, an industrial accident, out here at the landfill,” Stoner said. “A roll-off truck had tipped over.

“All of our emergency crews responded, the sheriff’s department, the fire department and Houston EMS responded. Crews were able to provide care for two injured parties, and they were transported to Navicent in Macon in stable condition.”

According to Stoner, one of the victims involved was “pinned underneath a trailer temporarily.”

“Crews were able to get her extricated pretty quickly and into EMS care.”

Both vehicles involved were owned privately. One was attempting to unload during the incident.

While the fire department responded to the initial emergency, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office worked to investigate the incident further.

According to HCSO Captain Clay Chambers, the incident is an ongoing investigation.
