Westfield’s Kirkley entertains offer from Warner University

Over the course of a year, one Westfield player has escalated from a seemingly unknown prospect to one of the top under the radar of his class in the state of Georgia. Recently, talented gunslinger and dual threat quarterback Hunter Kirkley announced his inaugural scholarship offer.

“I am blessed to receive an offer from Warner University,” he said.

Where is Warner University? Warner University is a division-two NAIA member school in Lake Wales, Florida. The Royals compete in the Sun Division of the Mid-South Conference since the start of its football program in 2013.

The 5’11” quarterback has taken big strides to improve his game. In his junior season at The Westfield School, Kirkley was absolutely phenomenal.

The elusive runner and speedster ran a sub-4.6 in the 40-yard dash. The shiftiness in Kirkley allowed him to break many of his defenders’ tackles, while rushing for almost 1,000 yards.

In 2021, Kirkley helped lead the Westfield Hornets to the third round of the GISA state playoffs. It was in the third round where Kirkley and the Hornets fell short to Pinewood, 32-20.

In his most recent game — which was the final of his junior campaign — Kirkley was 22-for-34 passing, threw for two touchdowns, 310 yards and three interceptions. Hunter Kirkley finished 111-of-182, and he threw for 1,977 yards, 23 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Also padding the stats, Kirkley was among Westfield’s leading rushers. He rushed for 706 yards on 98 carries and 14 touchdowns last fall.

A dynamic dual-threat for Westfield, he is also Westfield’s current single-game passing yard leader and holds the school record for individual touchdowns. Both of these records were broken last season. Alongside 2,683 all purpose yards, Kirkley scored 37 total touchdowns last fall.

With one season left of his high school career, Kirkley will be pivotal to the Hornet’s overall success moving forward. Possessing a 4.0 grade point average and excelling on the gridiron, expect the three-sport athlete to receive more scholarship offers in the near future.

Hunter Kirkley will lead the Westfield Hornets in his senior campaign, this fall. Kirkley and the Hornets will kick-off their 2022 season, on August 19 in Albany. While in Albany, Westfield will face Deerfield-Windsor at 7:30. Fans of Hunter Kirkley and the Westfield Hornets will see them play five home games, at the Hornets Nest. Also on the schedule is GHSA’s Bleckley County. This GIAA and GHSA crossover game will be Cochran, on September 30.
