Westfield tennis ends regular season

The Westfield tennis teams hosted the Mt. de Sales Cavaliers at home April 8. The boys team defeated the Cavaliers by a team score of 5-0. Individual winners included: Lance Parks, Alex Shelton, Trey Spillers, J.C. Coleman and Wade Walker, and Tyler “Superman” Moreland and Jake Schleiger.

The girls’ team defeated the Lady Cavaliers by a team score of 3-2 … a narrow victory over a talented MDS team. Individual winners included: Stephanie Campbell, Valerie McLure, and Laura Johnson and Sydney Barker.
On April 9, the Stratford Eagles hosted Westfield at Stratford’s campus. The boys lost a tough match to the Eagles, the eventual region champions. This wrapped up the boys’ region schedule. The Hornets finished as GISA Region 2-AAA runners-up.

The Lady Hornets stung Stratford with a team score of 4-1. Their one loss occured in a third set tie-breaker. Individual winners included:Campbell, McLure, Hannah Livingston, and Johnson and Barker. No Stratford singles player or doubles team won more than four games in any match. The decisive victory cinched the GISA Region 2-AAA championship for the Lady Hornets.

Both teams now advance to the individual region tourney, to be played Tuesday, April 16th and Wednesday, April 17th at John Drew Smith Tennis Center in Macon. Pending the outcome of the individual region tournament, players will have the opportunity to advance to the individual state tourney, also to be held at JDS in Macon the following week. In addition, BOTH teams now advance to the team state championships at Newman Tennis Center in Augusta, GA April 29th.
