Westfield softball cruises to win against Bleckley County
The Westfield Lady Hornets stayed hot as they beat the Bleckley County Lady Royals 9-1 in their non-region matchup on Monday.

PERRY — The Westfield Lady Hornets (7-3) stayed hot as they beat the Bleckley County Lady Royals (2-6) 9-1 in their non-region matchup on Monday.
Westfield catcher Cate Raines opened the scoring barrage with a three-run home run in the first inning.
The Lady Hornets batted around the order in consecutive innings, driving in six runs in the second inning.
First base Chloe Hill led off the second with a double to the right-center wall.
Four batters later, Lauren Davidson hit a two-RBI single to center, extending Westfield’s lead to 6-0.
Madeline Katz slapped a double to left center, and the next two batters added two more runs across the plate for the Lady Hornets.
Riley Nelson popped up to first to end Westfield’s scoring attack.
In the fourth inning, the Lady Hornets were able to substitute players to get more time at the plate and in the field under their belt.
Tossing four strikeouts and walking one in this matchup, Westfield pitcher Lindy Hair worked her way out of a third inning jam after allowing consecutive singles.
Left fielder Addie Hobbs made a dazzling defensive catch in the fourth inning as she ran back towards the wall and caught the ball over her shoulder to end any shot of a Bleckley County comeback.
The Lady Royals’ bats were able to make contact with the ball, but they were not able to generate much run support.
Bleckley County’s lone score was in the third inning when a wild throw by Westfield allowed the runner from third to safely cross the plate.
The Lady Royals alternated pitchers each inning in an attempt to throw off the Lady Hornets.
Hill finished the evening 3-3 with two singles, a double, and stole home on a wild pitch in the second inning.

Westfield head coach Ryan Wetherington was encouraged by how his team played in their return home.
“We played well. [Bleckley County] threw two different pitchers at us with different velocities, and we were able to make adjustments at the plate without allowing the change of speed to affect us.”
“We have a tough game coming up against Tattnall Square – they are swinging well and playing good softball,” Wetherington added. “Defensively, things are starting to come together, so I hope that continues. I like where we are at and I like what we have coming forward.”
