Week at the Net: Demonettes Split Region Matches; Win in 5 sets against Lady Eagles

Tuesday, Sept. 5: Demonettes split matches with Lady Greyhounds and Eagles Landing

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. – The Warner Robins Demonettes’ first match of the night against the Lady Eagles of Eagles Landing did not go as planned.

The Demonettes spent most of the first set down 22-14 but got the side-out with a setup set by Ava Sexton to Mykiah Williams for the kill to draw closer at 22-15.

The Demonettes were only able to score one point and then side-out back to Eagles Landing, which immediately side-out to the Demonettes. Eagles Landing got the serve back at 24-16 and won the first set 25-16.

In order for the Demonettes to win the match, they needed to win the next two sets.

The Demonettes were able to trade points with Eagles Landing, until Williams captured a few points including an ace serve but would side-out after a long delay by the officials.

The Demonettes were able to build their lead to 12-9 until another official delay iced the server.

Eagles Landing’s luck wore down and the Demonettes built the lead to 18-12 and captured the set at 25-18 with excellent play by the libero Katelyn Harris, setter Sexton, and outside hitters Georgia Anderson, Williams, and Elisabeth Stovall.

The Demonettes were able to force the deceive third set but fell to Eagles Landing 15-9.

Eagles Landing built a lead by three at 9-6, and the Demonettes had some untimely service errors and allowed them to jump to a 13-7 lead.

Sexton served two more points until a service error hitting into the net to place one point from the match. Eagles Landing won the next point to clinch the set and match.

The Demonettes fared much better in the next match against the Lady Greyhounds by sweeping the set 25-22 and 25-18.

The Lady ‘Hounds went on a terror capturing a 7-1 lead.

The Demonettes’ serving allowed them to cut into the lead at 8-5.

Serving by Harris allowed the Demonettes to take the lead at 11-9 and then got a point, and gave one away on a service error.

The Lady ‘Hounds were able to capture points on rallies and capitalize on overpasses by the Demonettes to lead 21-19. The Demonettes tied the Lady ‘Hounds at 22 and were able to rally and gain the next three points to capture the set and match.

Thursday, Sept. 7: Demonettes Battle Lady Eagles to Capture Rivalry Match in Five Sets

The Demonettes started their first set against the Northside Lady Eagles strong with serving by Anderson to lead 7-1, but the Lady Eagles battled back to trail by one at 7-6.

The Demonettes took another lead at 10-7, but the Lady Eagles battled to inch closer to trail 20-16.

The Demonettes took a 23-18 lead, only two points from capturing the match, but the Lady Eagles refused to go quietly and tied the game at 23.

Good sets and saves by setter Emily Deighan and the middle hitter helped the Lady Eagles take the set 25-23.

The Demonettes started the second set at 7-2 and didn’t look back. The Lady Eagles overpassed right to the Demonettes middle hitter Stovall and then Clair Whitson served four straight points to lead 22-13. After the Lady Eagles side-outed, The Demonettes captured the next two points and finally set up the 24-15 lead.

The next serve went over and as the Lady Eagles tried to recover on defense the setter went over the middle line allowing Warner capture the set at 25-15.

The Demonettes and Lady Eagles split the next two sets 25-20, 25-10. Similar to the first two sets the Demonettes jumped off to quick lead but only allowed the Lady Eagles to come back on some serving errors, hitting the net.

The Lady Eagles knotted it at 20 and went on to win.

The Demonettes started off the fourth set off by leading 12-8 and settled down at 23-10 to lead the match before taking it 25-10.

The fifth set started off strong going back and forth with excellent net and backcourt play.

The Demonettes expanded their lead to 13-6 and set up the front row with excellent play to capture the match 15-6.

The Demonettes’ coach Marlene Rogers said after the game her team needs to work on not giving up so many service errors and hitting errors in the net. Williams and Zaiah Dantes played excellent not only spiking the ball but blocking shots as well.

UP NEXT:

The Demonettes play on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at Ola High School against Ola and Dutchtown at 6:00 p.m. and 7 p.m. respectively.

On Thursday, Sept. 14 they’ll come back home to play Perry and Northside at 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. respectively.

The Lady Eagles only play once next week, on Thursday, Sept. 14 at Warner Robins High School against Perry and Warner Robins at 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. respectively.
